Enthusiastic Part-Time Educators Wanted
Description of Work
As an environmental education center with a small working farm, our staff members and part time educators have the opportunity to bring exciting hands-on programs to classrooms in local schools, to teach on our 102-acre property in West Redding, and to offer virtual programming to interested classrooms. Our programs coordinate with the current NGSS standards and help to bring classroom lessons to life.
Our focus:
- Environment & Science (Animal Adaptations; Habitat Hunts; Fresh Water Ecology; Erosion)
- Agriculture (From Fleece to Fiber; Farm and Honeybees)
- Local History (Native American Programs)
Desirable Qualifications
A background in teaching, an interest in nature, as well as a love of (and comfort in) the out of doors are desirable. We are looking for educators with energy and enthusiasm, a desire to work with elementary school aged children, and a high degree of professionalism.
Candidates, when teaching on the property, should also have a level of fitness that will allow them to enjoy 1.5 hours in constant motion!
Candidates, when teaching in the schools, should, with the aid of a cart, be able to load, unload, and transport a variety of teaching materials to and from classrooms (mounted specimens, posters, Native American artifacts)—nothing over fifteen pounds.
Candidates, when teaching virtually, will need to have a comfort level being on camera and interacting with the students in an engaging way.
Training
We will have workshops on each teaching unit, along with a written curriculum, and opportunities to shadow our experienced teachers. We want to make sure you feel comfortable with the material and teaching techniques before taking on a program of your own. We will work together on getting you both comfortable and enjoying virtual programming!
Hours & Compensation
Teaching hours will vary from week to week, depending on the demand from area schools, and depending on seasonal programs offered onsite. Educators will be paid on an hourly basis and compensated for mileage.
Interviews
Our interviewing process will take place at the Education Center, you will be asked to submit a resumé, and you will meet with our Program Director and School Program Coordinator. Background checks will be required.
