Repeal this unfair Act

To the Editor:

Definitely time for a change in the way Congress deals with Social Security.

During the President Reagan Administration a uni-lateral decision by Congress in 1983 was adopted to take away: 60 percent of the Social Security pension for some government workers and all public school teachers in America who were on a public school pension as well.

Evidently they assumed that lf you receive a public school pension, there is no need to receive your Social Security pension? To receive your Social Security pension one must work at least 40 quarters to qualify with Social Security withdrawn from your earnings. If you worked for this benefit, then you should receive your retirement benefit at 100 percent of the time and percentage that the government has taken from your earnings.

As a retired public school teacher under his 1983 Social Security Windfall Act by Congress, you will receive only 40 percent. This, of course, is not only unfair, but unAmerican. Do you think any Congress member would be satisfied with only 40 percent of their retirement pension? This, of course, is legalized stealing, which is still in effect presently.

There are some members of Congress who do indeed feel that this act should be recinded immediately, but not enough to create the elimination of the 1983 Social Security Windfall Act. No one is asking for a free lunch; just what they have paid for.
