President’s Message

Working for You! Join Us.

Did you know that the shingles vaccine, which was initially not covered by your TRB (Teacher’s Retirement Board) Health plan, is now covered? You contacted the TRB and they listened. If you paid for the shingles vaccine, contact Stirling Benefits (203.647.0628) for reimbursement.

We are keeping a watchful eye on proposed Social Security legislation in Washington. Some politicians want to cut Social Security benefits by changing the way cost of living adjustment (COLA) is calculated. The AARP reports that currently the consumer price index (CPI) is used to make cost of living adjustments to Social Security. Under the new proposal, “chained” CPI benefits would decrease now and grow larger in the future. See the AARP website for a complete explanation.

We will continue to monitor and oppose any legislation that will adversely impact retired teachers while supporting proposals and candidates that are sensitive to our needs. We must stand together to protect our earned retirement benefits. Each of us needs to recruit new members to the SFCRTA. There is strength in numbers.

Special thanks to Jamie Stirling (CEO Stirling Benefits) who spoke to over 250 SFCRTA members at our October General Meeting.

Respectfully,

Frank Cooper, President.
